Department Description
HISTORICAL OPPORTUNITIES
Braintree is rich in history dating back to its original inception in 1640 and earlier. The Town of Braintree values its rich historical background and promotes many of our local landmarks as places to be seen by tourists visiting the Boston area. The Braintree Town Center Historic district is located along the Washington Street comprised of 18 historic properties. The Braintree Historic Commission reviews exterior architectural changes to these properties when proposed through a public hearing process and issues a Certificate of Appropriateness or a Determination of Non-Applicability. The Planning and Community Development Office serves as staff to the Historic Commission.
