The Town Clerk is responsible for the recording of all vital events that occur in the Town
of Braintree. Vital events include marriages, deaths, and births. Certified copies of
vital records are issued by the Town Clerk’s office.
Most vital records can be ordered by mail. List the information of the record, enclose a
check payable to the Town of Braintree for the amount of the records and enclose a
self-addressed stamped envelope.
Fees :
Marriage License $25.00 ; Certified Copy $10.00
A couple getting married in the State of Massachusetts may apply for their marriage
license in any Town Clerk’s office in the state. A license may be obtained by doing
the following:
1. Both parties must apply in person and show picture I.D.
2. There is a three-day waiting period for the license. A marriage license, once filed, is
valid for 60 days.
3. After the marriage occurs, the officiate completes the license and returns it to the
town. The couple can then obtain a copy of the marriage certificate at the Town Clerk's
Office for a fee of $10.00.
Birth Certificates $10.00 for long forms; $5.00 for card
1. Long form contains all information at time of birth (parents, place of birth,
physician, etc.)
2. Short form shows name, date and place of birth.
Both forms will be certified by the Town Clerk’s Office. The long form is needed for
passports, insurance purposes, etc. The short form is generally used for routine purposes
such as school registration, sports sign-ups, work employment.
Death Certificates $10.00
1. A town will have the death certificate for a person who passed away in that town or was
a resident of the town at time of death.
The Town Clerk will license dogs for 2007 from April 11, 2007 through June 29, 2007. The
fee is $10.00 for each dog. A late fee of $15.00 will apply for dogs licensed after June
30. If you wish to license your dog by mail, please fill out the form below and mail it to
the above address. Make checks payable to the Town of Braintree and enclose a copy of an
up-to-date rabies certificate along with a self-addressed stamped envelope. We will return
the rabies certificate to you with your license.
