The Management Information Systems department was created as a separate department in 2000 to provide technical support to Town Hall employees and to act as a focal point for future technological improvements and initiatives. Although MIS does not directly support the citizens of Braintree, services rendered to the town offices ultimately result in improved community services and streamlined operations.


Tasks performed by MIS:

Assist with central purchasing of computer hardware and software for all departments.
Provide efficient and reliable operation of all Town computers, both hardware and software.
MIS is responsible for the installation and configuration of hardware and software and to provide technical and educational support to the Town’s computer users. This support includes troubleshooting computers, local area network and communication problems.


Administer servers, Financial and file/Application. Updates, Backups and security.

Provide assistance working with vendors, Data National, Firewall updates and evaluation, Shared Technologies, Verizon, BELD, Optima and the GIS consultant.

Administering of the telephone system. Assist users with training and usage of the phone system. The MIS Department provides first level support on all telephone issues. This includes administration and updates on the voice mail system and the call tracking system. Generate reports to the Selectmen on usage and other issues relating to the phone system.
