Drop-Off Center Services

Residential Drop-Off Center of Braintree

Located: Across from Braintree T Station at 257 Ivory Street (left of Covanta Transfer Station)
Hours: 7am-3pm, Mon, Tue, Thurs, Fri & Sat - Closed Wednesdays, Sundays and Holidays.


Limit - One Visit Per Day

TRASH: (Sticker Required)
A Resident Trash Sticker is required to utilize this area.

One visit per day & must be a Braintree resident with current trash sticker affixed to vehicle. This service is intended for the occasional extra trash a resident might have when they do not wish to wait until their next curbside pickup.

Sticker cost is included in the trash fee paid by residents with curbside collection and can be obtained at the Collector’s Office/Town Hall (781-794-8130) Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm.

Acceptable items:

  • 2-3 BARRELS/BAGS/BOXES of trash
  • 2 BULK ITEMS (furniture & appliances)
  • 3 (tied) bundles of wood or carpet (in 3 foot lengths)

Clean-outs/Excess Trash Amounts (Not to exceed 500 lbs.)

The Drop-Off Center and the Curbside trash pickup are intended for normal, weekly household trash.

Residents can also purchase a special "one-load permit" at a cost of $25 from the Collector’s Office at Town Hall (781-794-8130 Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm). This permit allows a pick-up or S.U.V. load up to 500lbs to be brought to the Drop-Off Center. Multiple permits can be purchased if you have more than one load and can be used at any time as there is no expiration date.

Vehicle to be used must have a current Trash Sticker, must be registered to a Braintree resident and the permit is non-transferable. Commercial, Apartment Buildings with over 4 units and Condo residents are not eligible. The “One-Load Permit” is only valid at the Braintree Residential Drop-Off Center. The permit cannot be used at the Covanta Transfer Facility.

Excessive trash that is generated by cleanouts due to moving, periodic 'house cleanings' by residents not participating in the curbside program must be disposed of by renting a dumpster or can be taken to:

Hours: 7AM-3PM/Monday through Saturday. Special pricing for All Braintree residents- including Condo owners: (Payment by credit card only and proof of residency required.) Construction and demolition material not accepted per DEP regulations.

  • Up to 500 lbs. - $50 minimum charge
  • Over 500 lbs., 10 cents/lb.

Compost bins can be purchased at the Residential Drop-Off Center at 257 Ivory Street on Saturdays only from 9 noontime.

RECYCLING NON SINGLE STREAM – DESIGNATED CONTAINERS: (See attendant for appropriate container)

METALS (Sticker Required)– There is a designated container for all metals.
Acceptable Items: Lawn mowers (with empty tanks), metal shelves, empty propane tanks, grills, tools, etc.

RIGID PLASTICS (Sticker Required) – there is a designated container for rigid plastics.

  • Acceptable items: Buckets w/metal handles, laundry baskets, lawn furniture, toys & playhouses (broken down), plastic coolers, shelving, pet carriers, trash barrels, 5 gallon containers, plastic flower pots (no soil).
  • Non-Acceptable Items: Plastic beverage containers, hoses, PVC pipe, vinyl siding, glass, metal, wood, paper, Styrofoam, oil/chemical containers.

FURNITURE (Sticker Required) – there is a designated container for furniture. Limit of 2 items/ day

MERCURY (No Sticker Required) Mercury is harmful to your family’s health but will not cause harm as long as it stays inside the product and is disposed of properly. A free exchange of mercury thermometers for digital ones can be done at the Ivory Street Drop-Off Center.

  • Acceptable Items: Thermostats, Glass Thermometers, Chemistry Sets, Fluorescent & Halogen Bulbs, Blood-Pressure Cuffs, Barometers, Auto/Boat Switches.

BOOKS (No Sticker Required) – there is a designated container for books

  • Acceptable Items: Gently used books, DVDs, CDs, Records, Video Games, Comic Books, Baseball Cards
  • Non-Acceptable Items: Encyclopedias, magazines, Newspapers, wet/moldy/damaged items, cassette tapes, VHS tapes, picture tube TVs, CRT Computer Monitors.

CLOTHING/TEXTILES (No Sticker Required)
There is a Textile Collection Box on site. Textile recycling generates $ for Braintree, Saves $ on disposal fees, helps the environment and also saves room in your cart! 95% OF ALL TEXTILES CAN BE RECYCLED OR REUSED. DONATE OR RECYCLE, DON’T THROW IT IN THE TRASH

  • Sweatpants skirts, undergarments, socks, slips, pajamas, bathrobes
  • Accessories – hats, belts, pocketbooks, gloves, duffle bags, ties, scarves, cloth tote bags.
  • Linens – sheets, blankets, comforters, pillows, drapes, dish & bath towels, tablecloths, small throw, rugs, placemats, napkins
  • Stuffed Animals – can be faded, torn, missing accessories (such as whiskers, noses, etc.)
