Braintree Recycling: Household Hazardous Waste Day Drop-off

Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off Collections will be held Saturday, September 29th, 2012, 9:00 AM – Noon at the Recycling Center on Ivory Street. For more information call 781-794-8088.  Cost is $5 per 10 gallons (liquids) or 10 pounds (solids).  Cash only, please.  Costs are minimal due to partial sponsorship by Clean Harbors Corporation.

Partially filled aerosol cans may be brought to the event. Empty aerosol cans may be recycled curbside. Household alkaline batteries made after 1994 do not contain mercury, and may be disposed of in the trash. Rechargeable batteries are hazardous and should be brought to the event.

Cathode Ray Tubes, as found in all TVs, computer monitors, all types of electronic equipment and small appliances will be accepted again this year by the Friends of the Public Library at very reasonable rates. $15 for 24" and smaller, otherwise $20.00 per item over 24".
                      
Friends of the Library will accept automobile and truck tires. Disposal rates of: Car tires $5.00 each, Truck tires $15.00 each, rims $2.00, car and small truck batteries @ $5.00 each as well as Air conditioners ($15. per unit). After disposal expenses, proceeds go to the Library.

Latex paint is not a hazardous material and can be disposed of in your regular trash pick-up. Remove can lid and add a small amount of kitty litter (or air dry.)  Dry latex paint can be put in the trash.

Mercury
Free exchange of dangerous mercury thermometers with safe digital ones at the Health Department at 90 Pond Street 8:30 - 4:00 Mon-Fri or 257 Ivory Street Recycling Center Saturday 9 AM - Closing.
Pack in small baggies for safe transport.  Turn in your old mercury thermometers also in exchange for a digital one.

Clean Harbors
If you are unable to attend a Household Hazardous Wast Event, Braintree residents can dispose of hazardous materials at 1 Hill Ave., the Clean Harbors site off of Quincy Avenue.  Please call 781-380-7177 for more information, cost and directions. Hours:  Saturdays, March through November from 8AM-Noon, rain or shine.

Prescription Drug Disposal Program
Prescription Drug Disposal Program, sponsored by Mayor Joseph C. Sullivan, The Braintree Police Department, & the Board of Health, is being offered to Braintree residents at the Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Day/April 28th & September 29, 2012. Residents can bring old and unused prescription medications and sharps needles to this event for free disposal. Please bring medication in original containers only, with patient name voided. SHARPS (Needle/Syringe) Disposal Program
SHARPS needle disposal is offered by the Braintree Health Department, by appointment. 781-794-8094
